AICIB launches Portugal Clinical Studies to boost Clinical Research

Placing Portugal among the most attractive countries for conducting clinical studies in the European Union, while increasing the value created for patients, the health system, academia and society, is the vision set out by the Portuguese Government for the area of Clinical Research (Council of Ministers Resolution No. 27/2018). It is with this goal in mind that the Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation (AICIB) presents Portugal Clinical Studies, a new platform designed to simplify and streamline the processes involved in national clinical studies.

Portugal Clinical Studies will strengthen Portugal’s position in the clinical trials market and generate a systemic impact on Clinical Research Centres by:

• Acting as a single point of access to the national network of research units and their respective patients;

• Providing support services and solutions throughout the entire life cycle of clinical trials, in an integrated and tailored manner for all key stakeholders;

• Empowering research centres, contributing to enhanced quality and operational efficiency.

This platform brings together a dynamic and specialised team which, fully aligned with AICIB’s mission and vision since its establishment in 2018, will drive innovation and the transformation of Portugal into a hub for science applied to health.

Portugal Clinical Studies offers a range of support services for Sponsors, Contract Research Organisations (CROs), Research Centres and Patient Associations, including:

• Regulatory Affairs: support in identifying legislation and regulations applicable to each study, and in preparing responses to regulatory authorities;

• Recruitment: creation of a digital channel for the public dissemination of clinical studies, aimed at recruiting participants;

• Feasibility: submission of country/site feasibility support requests, assessed by a dedicated team;

• Strategic Planning and Optimisation: assistance in developing strategic vision and action plans, enabling more efficient use of resources throughout clinical studies;

• Among other essential services contributing to the success of clinical research.
