Mission to the City of Praia (Cabo Verde)
From 6 to 9 November 2024, the Executive Coordination of PLICIB – Lusophone Platform for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation organised a mission to Praia, Cabo Verde, with the aim of meeting with the Ministry of Health of Cabo Verde and the National Institute of Public Health of Cabo Verde (INSP), within the framework of the potential accession process to the EDCTP Association and to PLICIB.
In this context, meetings were held with Dr. Filomena Gonçalves, Minister of Health, her Chief of Cabinet, as well as with the President of INSP, Dr. Maria da Luz Lima, allowing for the establishment of trust-based relationships and significant progress in the processes underway.
Carlos Almeida Pereira, Science Officer at AICIB – Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation, also participated in the 5th National Health Research Congress, in the roundtable “Health Research in Cabo Verde”, with a presentation on “Funding, sustainability, and evidence-based decision-making”. His contribution addressed the importance of innovation and health research, introducing PLICIB and the future National Hub for Brain Health as examples of programmes supporting the scientific community.
PLICIB is a programme coordinated by AICIB, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and co-funded by EDCTP3, with the main goal of promoting proactive engagement of the Portuguese scientific community in Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) and neighbouring countries.
PLICIB provides executive and financial support to strengthen human and infrastructural capacity in clinical research and biomedical innovation, as well as in ethics, regulation, and certification, targeting Research and Clinical Practice Units in PALOP countries.
